Brief: Editorial pieces on events at Andrew Hill Salon
When: April 2015 onwards
“We were delighted with the content, efficiency and professionalism of DropCapCopy. Without doubt, we would use them again for any future copy requirements.” Sam Delany – Andrew Hill Salon
After being a customer at Andrew Hill Salon for the last few years, it was great to be approached by General Manager, Sam, to write two editorial pieces on staff awards at the salon. Primarily produced to showcase the young talent at the salon, they were also used as a recruitment drive for more trainees throughout the year.
Both pieces were due to appear in the local Mid-Devon Advertiser weekly newspaper over consecutive weeks and during our meeting, it transpired that the first of the two pieces, covering the Andrew Hill Salon Trainee Awards event, would be required for that Friday’s edition. The event was on Wednesday evening, so you could say the turnaround time was pretty swift.
The final 500 word draft was given to Sam and Andrew for approval and then sent onto the paper before their 12noon Thursday deadline and appeared unedited which was great to see.
The second piece was written retrospectively about an internal Andrew Hill Salon Awards evening that happened a few weeks prior. Again, I wrote a 500 word piece detailing the awards and the evenings winners and submitted it to Sam and Andrew for their approval.
Though this was approved in full by them both, the piece appeared in the following week’s paper as an edited version. But, that’s the way it goes sometimes – space restrictions can cut copy entirely, so I’m pleased to have both appear – edited or not.
As November 2015 rolled around, the Salon ran a very successful competition on Facebook for a chance to win a full makeover worth £200 from their team of experts. Again, I was asked by Sam to write a piece for publication in the same local newspaper.
Writing roughly the same amount of copy as the original piece on the Trainee Awards, I was, again, pleased to see the full and unedited piece appear in that week’s edition. Together with an advert for the salon, the piece was displayed prominently and proved to be a successful promotion for the Andrew, Sam and the team.
Whilst appearing in the paper, I also produced an edited version for the Salon’s Facebook page.
With the 2nd quarter of 2016 about to get underway, the salon threw open its doors once again. This time for a special evening reception for their clients.
On a cool Tuesday evening, 100 guests arrived to champagne and canapés. The copy deadline happened to be the next day by lunchtime. Yes, it was a super-fast turnaround. 450 words written, approved and dispatched in under 24 hours.
And I’m rather pleased report that it was another unedited piece.
